Scholarship Programs

SCIA SCHOLARSHIPS

The South Central Industrial Association Otis T. Logue, Aimee Celeste Lagarde and the Gordon "Bubba" Dove Scholarships are dedicated to improving the quality of education of our youth by providing funding to qualified candidates. The Logue and Dove scholarships may be used according to the qualifications below, while the Lagarde scholarship is designed for any student entering Fletcher Technical Community College.

Scholarship Awards

1.         Two scholarships valued at $1,000.00 each and two scholarships valued at $2,500.00 each will be awarded each year to qualified high school seniors.

Eligibility and Qualifications

  1. Candidate must be a child of a Voting or Non-Voting representative of the SCIA or the child of an employee of a SCIA member firm.
  2. Candidate must have a cumulative high school grade point average (at least 9-11) of 2.5 or greater based on a 4.0 scale.
  3. Candidate must have a minimum of 20 ACT score and copy of ACT score must accompany the application.
  4. Candidate must have two letters of recommendation , one from an educator and one from an outside source (not a relative).  Both letters must accompany the application .
  5. Candidate must have participated in extra curricular activities and provide Community service activities OR must have work experience in its place.
  6. Candidate must have an essay of 500-700 words, typed, double-spaced , with references to research sources, if applicable, on individual goals.
  7. The completed application must be submitted to the SCIA, P.O. Box 2143, Houma, Louisiana 70361-2143 on or before April 30 of the candidates’ high school senior year.
  8. Candidate must attend an accredited Louisiana two or four year college program.

2.         One scholarship valued at $1,000 will be provided to each of the three area technical colleges.

Eligibility and Qualifications

  1. Candidate must be enrolled at one of the three area technical colleges, specifically:  in Houma, the Louisiana Technical College South Louisiana Campus, Lafourche Technical College in Thibodaux, or Young Memorial Louisiana Technical College in Morgan City.
  2. Each college Director shall treat these as discretionary funds in the sense to assist students facing unusual, temporary circumstances to complete a course of study.  Instead of assisting a single student, as many students as possible should be helped.
  3. Candidates must be willing to have their name and amount of assistance specified in an annual report provided to the SCIA.

ALL APPLICANTS ARE REQUIRED TO WRITE AN ESSAY OF 500-700 WORDS, TYPED, DOUBLE SPACED, ON THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: THE ESSAY MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH THE APPLICATION .
